Austria is one of the smallest European countries, but also one of the most beautiful! With such diversity to offer, from winter sports facilities to incredible cultural cities, Austria is filled with tourists all year around. If you ever find yourself in Austria and don’t know where to start visiting, here’s our favorite things to do in this beautiful country:
1. The Ski Experience
Skiing in Austria is a dream came true for all those who love winter sports! The Alps have been generous enough to offer the best possible conditions for skiing and snowboarding, at all levels of difficulty. But besides the great conditions for practicing winter sports, what is truly great is the general atmosphere in the Alpine towns. The locals are welcoming and the landscapes are breathtaking! Probably the most popular Alpine destination is Zell Am See. Zeller See, the lake around the city, is blue, clear and the picture-perfect example of an Alpine lake. You can spend your whole day on the slope and then continue at a cool party on top of the mountains. If you’re visiting during summer, the lake is great for fishing and the area offers many other sites to see.
2. The Vienna Experience
Vienna has so much to offer, it’s a city where you breathe culture, history and architecture on every street! Schönbrunn Palace is at the center of the cultural life in Vienna, being the former imperial summer residence. 40 rooms are available to the public, but besides the palace itself, Schönbrunn has also a pretty incredible garden complex, which includes a labyrinth, Europe’s oldest zoo and the Palm House filled with tropical and exotic plants and butterflies. They are all included on the UNESCO’s list of World Heritage Site and it is cultural place that you must add on your Austrian Bucket list!
Also when in Vienna don’t miss the chance to visit the State Opera. A sumptuous building that gathers the most talented classical musicians in the world for exclusive concerts. Enjoying an evening performance here is a cultural experience that you’ll forever keep in mind and soul! And in order to continue the musical experience, go visit Mozart’s house, on Domgasse 5. The composer lived in Mozarthaus Vienna in grand style from 1784 to 1787 where he composed most of its work!
3. The Dachstein Sky Walk
Feeling adventurous? Try the incredible Dachstein Sky Walk, one of the most spectacular viewing platforms in the world. Located in Ramsau am Dachstein, the glacier world awaits for an incredible experience! When you’re on the sky walk platform, below you is a 250-meter sheer rockface of the Hunerkogel, and around you..an unforgettable mountain panorama! Add a little more thrill to this experience with the stairway to nothingness, where 14 narrow steps take you down to a glass platform at a vertigo-inducing height. Remarkable views downwards and across the mountains are guaranteed! #Bliss
4. The Tasty Part
Wherever you are in Austria, you’ll find great food! The Austrian cuisine is simple and extremely delicious! Of course, the most known dish is the Viennese schnitzel, traditionally made from veal but very often available also with pork, chicken or turkey meat. Most restaurants pride themselves for serving a Schnitzel larger than the plate, so make sure you go there hungry! The Austrians don’t joke when it comes to food.. Taking things to a sweeter level, you must try the Apple Strudel, a sweet delight of paper thin pastry sheets, apple and optional raisins. It’s a light dessert, extremely delicious and also quite nourishing!
Whether you’ll be in Austria during winter or summer, there’s plenty to see and visit. It’s quite extraordinary the ability of this country to seduce tourists of all ages, in all seasons. Such a pleasure to visit Austria! #WeLove
